Studying CSE under National University, Bangladesh.
Before I let you guys jump into the topic I would like to say something about “Computer Science”
If somebody asks you about which comes first “EGG” or “Chicken” ? Then, probably you’ll end up into an uncertain conclusion as many people will have strong logic supporting each options. So, this is a matter of “UNCERTAINTY” ! .This is just a funny example.
Similarly, you never know in which company you will be joining in the future. So, its nearly an impossible task to conclude that, “CGPA doesn’t matter or Skill only matters”. So, like the previous example , this is another case of “UNCERTAINTY”. Its better to focus on both rather than focusing on a single thing.Different people have different preferences.
Anyway, I shouldn’t be making you guys bored. In Bangladesh, National University runs professionals courses on many institutes and colleges across the country. The most popular ones are “BBA”, “CSE”, “ECE” and “THM”.
Now, I’m going to share my experiences about studying CSE under National University.
Basically,Its a 4 year BSc. (Hons) professional course having 8 semesters. Each year we have to complete 2 semesters. In total its a 148 credit course. What I’ve understood so far is that the curriculum is mainly based on theoretical computer science rather than more practical computer science like other universities teach. So, we have to learn so many theories as well as some logical, analytical problems.Interestingly, we have to sit for board exams eight times! All over Bangladesh, the exam will run at a time.More than 30 institutes(Correct Me If I’m wrong) run this course. So, you will have a national rank. Its a great experience for me.If you can stand first in the all country rank, then it will be a great opportunity for you.Like I’ve already said, you will have more theoretical knowledge but to be honest ,I feel that, a student should practice programming more by thyself. Also you can learn other practical things to make yourself competence in the job market. The major institutes/collages are:
- Dhaka City College
- Daffodil Institute of IT
- Institute of Science and Technology
- Tejgaon College
- Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College etc.
Here comes the Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- Enlarged Syllabus
- In depth knowledge can be gained
- All Bangladesh Ranking system is quite good
- less costlier to study and get a certificate from a public university
Cons:
- No “IEB” certification which means you can’t use the “Engineer” word before your name officially.
- Less importance is given on practical knowledge as theoretical knowledge gets higher priority here.
- The system is complicated as you might be taught by a teacher, your questions would be set by a different teacher and the answer script would be judged by another teacher. So sometimes the results won’t satisfy you.So its quite difficult to get higher CGPA here.
Lastly, I just want to say, if you are passionate about computer science , you can go for it.Even though you can still learn CS without being a student of CS but I will prefer you to get into it for getting more knowledge. For middle class people it may be very difficult to bare the cost of “Private Universities”. So, this is a good option for them.NU is far better than non IEB accredited private universities in terms of computer science. If you need tutorials, please visit here
